Meet the Owner

David E Brown, Jr

The mind behind this solution-centric endeavor, David Brown found his beginning in the world of drafting as a young high school student at Vo-tech. With his introduction to a technical degree in computer-aided-drafting at age 19, his passion soon evolved from merely drafting, then into project management and estimating in the architectural woodworking industry. Possessing a keen eye for details and the ability to swiftly streamline processes over the years, David has been able to master the tenets of the woodworking industry while also establishing himself as a business-oriented individual and MBA graduate.

David now manages our team’s drafting projects by communicating with our architectural millwork customers, then coordinating and delivering required information back to the drafters for review of the details and updating as required. Furthermore, David’s specialties also extend to the creation of RFIs if required by customers— thanks to the many years spent doing side projects involving drafting services, shop drawings and detailed designs David is competent in coordinating project and design information and details, describing information effectively in written RFI formats

It has now been about 24 years since David began this challenging path of exceptionalism and competence as a woodwork office professional. David continues his endeavors in this industry by now managing a drafting team, providing graphic design, marketing, web design and development services for woodworkers, and will also launch his own estimating and project management software for millworkers in the coming year (2024 into 2025).

How It Works

How It Works

STEP 1: FIRST WE NEED A BASIC UNDERSTANDING OF THE PROJECT REQUIREMENTS

At this initial stage we need some basic information about the project. We’ll want to know do you consider this a large or small project? And what is the timeframe all shop drawings must be submitted? We’ll also need to know how much information you have. Is there a detailed quote and takeoff? Does the project have specifications? Are the drawings detailed or vague?

STEP 2: AT THIS STAGE WE NORMALLY PROVIDE A QUOTE FOR THE SERVICES

The drafting team will gather the drawings, takeoffs and specification information for a formal review, and they will determine how many hours the project will take and develop an expected timeline for completion. Then our customer service and sales team will prepare a final quotation for the work including expected milestones and delivery dates and share this work the customer.

STEP 3: REVIEW THE ARCHITECTURAL DRAWINGS AND SPECS THOROUGHLY AND PREPARE DRAWINGS

After all files are received, a quote for drafting services is approved, and a payment deposit is received it is then time to begin preparing the shop drawings and details for the project. The drafting team will spend time familiarizing themselves with the architectural drawings and specifications. We will prepare any RFIs we can early in the process, however, some items are not apparent until after the drafters are working out the details. But we will be sure to send an RFI anytime a question arises. We will prepare the shop drawing in 2D or 3D CAD or both as specified for the project.

Note: We always have AutoCAD available, and we are able to provide other software services other than AutoCAD, such as Cabinet Vision or Microvellum drawings. However, at this time it is depending on availability of workers that assist us in providing the drawings. The drafters are remote workers, or affiliate drafting businesses, and AutoCAD software is more readily available than the industry specific, higher cost, software packages. We are a growing business and the industry specific programs are more prevalent and available all the time. We will ride with the tides and adapt as necessary.

STEP 4: QUALITY CONTROL REVIEW AND DELIVERY TO CUSTOMER

STEP 4: QUALITY CONTROL REVIEW AND DELIVERY TO CUSTOMER

We are always striving to provide high-quality millwork shop drawings and to meet and exceed customer expectations. We require our drafting teams to have in place quality control systems to double check the drawings for accuracy. The drafters will return drawings to David (MDS Owner) who will then review the drawings again against any current information we have and verify we submitted all necessary RFIs. After the drawings pass our reviews they will be forwarded to the Millwork Shop (Customer) for the next steps in their hands. At this point David or someone else assisting in Project Management and Customer Service will be available to discuss the project further to answer and questions and address any issues.

Custom Quote

$TBD

Each project is unique, and the millwork manufacturer often benefits by knowing the cost of the project up front. Millwork Drafting Services also benefits and can commit to projects without worry when a deposit is paid. Hence, providing a custom project quote is often the best case.

Hourly Services

$33*

It is difficult to give a firm rate on the hourly pricing that will work for every situation. We work with remote teams. Most of the drafting work is done abroad. However, customer service (David) is located in United States. *If your project requires Microvellum users only working in U.S. we can help coordinate this, but it would require a higher hourly rate. (This is one example, but depending on job we’ll discuss upfront if anything causes a rate increase).* American workers, to be brutally honest, cost much more due to economic challenges. We offer transparency but cannot sugarcoat things.
